CPD Requirements

Health Practitioners Competence Assurance Act 2003 (the Act)

In 2003, the Act was passed into law. The Medical Radiation Technologists Board (MRTB) is one of sixteen New Zealand health regulation authorities appointed by the Minister of Health under the Act. The Board is responsible for the administration of the Act in regard to the profession of medical radiology technology (medical imaging and radiation therapy).

With the introduction of the Act in 2003, in order to gain an Annual Practising Certificate (APC) it became mandatory for every practising MRT to provide evidence of enrolment and active participation in a Medical Radiation Technologists Board (MRTB) approved recertification programme.

The NZIMRT was a proactive early adopter of CPD and has offered an MRTB approved CPD programme from August 2004 until the MRTB changed the requirements on 1st April 2017.

Recertification includes a number of tools used by the Board to monitor the ongoing competence of all practising medical imaging and radiation therapy practitioners. Continuing professional development (CPD) is a critical feature of the Board’s recertification programme.

New CPD Standards

The MRTB published their new CPD standards for Annual Recertification of Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy Practitioners on 8th March 2017.

The myCPD E-portfolio website is tailored to respond to these new CPD requirements.

How to run a Study Day

Have you considered running a study day in your area but just not quite had the experience or confidence to make it happen? The NZIMRT has compiled guidelines and templates to help you through the organisation process (these are currently under review). Give it a go, it can be a very rewarding experience.

Our thanks to Lee Wilson for her work in devising these guidelines.
